Ever wonder why you sneeze when you haven’t got a cold?

A sneeze is the mechanism the body uses to clear the nose – this might be dirt, pollen, smoke or dust.

This foreign matter can irritate tiny hairs inside the nasal passage. When this happens, an electrical signal is sent to the brain which responds by triggering a sneeze.

However, experts are unsure why some people sneeze once, and some do it multiple times.

A third of people also suffer from solar sneeze reflex – where bright lights, such as the sun, can trigger a sneeze.
